Position Description – Mechanical Project Engineer
The Mechanical Project Engineer works directly with Project Managers on the planning and execution of engineering functions required for fabrication and installation of industrial process equipment.
Mechanical Engineer III – entry level 0 - 5 years experience as a project engineer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Reports directly to Mechanical Engineering Manager but will be assigned to specific projects with supervision under the direction of the Project Manager.
- Create clear and precise fabrication detail drawings and installation layouts based upon the project scope, specifications and estimate. Including purchase components and fabrication material call outs on drawings.
- Designing of mechanical equipment based upon the project scope, specifications and estimate.
- Incorporating standards and specifications into drawings. Including customer, local, state and national codes and safety regulations.
- Effective communication and collaboration with electrical and controls requirements for the mechanical design. Including equipment description of operation and incorporating electrical control devices into the design.
- Effective communication and collaboration with vendors and sub contractors for purchase and fabrication of mechanical components.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering technology, or minimum 5 years experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Able to apply mathematical functions such as fractions, percentages, ratios and engineering formulas.
- Have proficient skills with AutoCAD and Inventor 2015 or higher. Excellent Soildworks skills will also fulfill in lieu of Inventor experience.
- Have proficient skills with Microsoft Office programs.
- Knowledge of mechanical mechanisms and machine design. Including various mechanical components such as mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic drive packages.
- Ability to design mechanical equipment based upon project specifications and project scope.
- Ability to coordinate and communicate mechanical equipment functions, sequence of operations, time cycle requirements and etc with controls/electrical engineering. Incorporate electrical control system and control device requirements.
- Knowledge of fabrication processes. Including part fabrication, welding, and assembly requirements.

Job Summary
Your primary duty is to be an engineer first; ensuring the GENESYS technical solution meets our client’s needs and our contractual obligations. You report directly to the Engineering Manager to help lead and mentor the entire engineering group. You also work directly with sales, project management, clients and subcontractors to develop successful project plans, schedules and budgets. To be effective in this position you need to fully understand the mechanical system design and operation. Your focus areas are control system architecture, power and controls wiring design, PLC and HMI programming.
Responsibilities:

- Work with the sales department to review customer RFQs, develop internal estimates and scope of work, and evaluate subcontractor bids.
- Work with the project management team to monitor scope, schedule and budget of controls content.
- Monitor timeliness and quality of work of electrical and controls subcontractors.
- Ensure compliance with relevant electrical codes, safety standards, and customer standards in the design and implementation of electrical and controls systems.
- Develop control strategies and implement programmable logic controller (PLC) and human-machine interface (HMI) systems.
- Design and develop electrical systems, including power distribution, wiring, control panels, and safety systems.
- Lead E&C installation, commissioning, debugging, and startup efforts at FAT and site.
- Help create and validate equipment sequence of operation and timing charts.
- Check drawings for thoroughness and accuracy, including self-generated drawings.
- Provide strategic leadership and technical guidance to the electrical and controls engineering team.
- Develop department-level policies, procedures, standards, and deliverables to ensure consistent execution.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field
- 10 years of experience with industrial controls and wiring in multiple manufacturing environments
- 5 years of experience with conveyors & automation in automobile manufacturing (body, paint or assembly)
- 5 years or more of experience at a senior project engineering level
- Strong expertise in electrical systems design, including power distribution, control panels, wiring, and safety systems. Proficiency with one or more electrical design packages (EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical)
- Experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens hardware and software (PLC, HMI, VFD, servo)
- Knowledge of robot specification, design, and programming preferred.
- Excellent knowledge of relevant electrical codes, safety standards, and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC).
- Experience in managing and leading a team of electrical and controls engineers.
- Solid understanding of project management principles and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and controls issues.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Like all positions within GENESYS, the controls technician works to deliver value to our projects, by managing risk, increased efficiency, removing obstacles, providing alternative methods, and improving communication between team members.
The Controls Technician supports all aspects of GENESYS project delivery that relate to electrical and controls scope. They will be responsible for supervision and performance of tasks at controls shops, our fabrication shop, and customer sites. The controls technician will assist GENESYS sales, project management, mechanical engineering, purchasing and fabrication as well as the rest of the controls department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the Chief Controls Engineer in the planning, prioritizing, and monitoring of electrical and controls work across GENESYS projects.
- Assist with development and delivery of E&C training to other departments to improve communication and understanding.
- Review electrical packages from controls subcontractors for quality, functionality, adherence to customer standards and applicable codes.
- Attend panel FAT at panel shop prior to shipment to customer or GENESYS site.
- Assist GENESYS shop personnel with run-offs and testing of equipment as needed. Perform temporary wiring for powering of electrical equipment. Perform minor programming of test systems to support runoffs where needed.
- Audit electrical installation at site for workmanship and adherence to customer standards and local and national electrical code. Help superintendents coordinate electrical work and maintain project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Monitor, direct, and assist controls subcontractors at site in testing and troubleshooting of system startups.
- Assist other controls department personnel in the development of company procedures, templates, and standards for electrical and controls work.
- Perform electrical and controls design work as needed for GENESYS - executed E&C scope.
- Maintain safe work practices for self and others.
Qualifications
- Associated Degree in Automation Technology or related field and 5 years of experience in industrial controls design, maintenance, or fabrication.
- 10 years of experience in industrial controls design, maintenance, or fabrication.
- Willingness to travel to jobsites as required (50%).
- Experience with programming and troubleshooting Rockwell and Siemens PLC systems.
- Experience with programming and troubleshooting Rockwell and Siemens VFDs and servo motors.
- Robotic (FANUC) programming experience preferred.
- Practice in specification, installation, wiring, and troubleshooting of common industrial instrumentation.
- Ability to specify and wire power equipment at 480V and below.
- Familiarity with various industrial communications networks and network equipment.
